What to Look For in a Makeup Course
When researching schools, you need to make sure they are going to have what you need. No school should rely solely on the trends and techniques of seasons long past. Instead, it should introduce you to modern products, tools, and what is currently considered fashionable. Therefore, be sure to look for the following qualities in any program you are applying to.
Accreditations
First and foremost, you need to make sure the school you choose has the proper accreditations. If the school does not have the approval from the proper authorities, your certification will be pretty much worthless. At a minimum, the school you attend should be acceptable for your region. Ideally, the certification you receive should be accepted globally.
Curriculum
As stated above, the school should teach you everything you need to know in many different branches of make-up artistry. Along with that, a good school should teach you modern techniques and how to use the most modern tools. You do not want to be starting a job and be considered by your coworkers and clients as old fashioned from day one.
You also want the school to teach you a few things about running a business and setting yourself up as an independent cosmetologist. It’s great to have a school bring give you a strong skill set, but what good is it if you’ve no idea how to benefit from them?
Facilities
The school you attend should be clean, have a good atmosphere, and good acoustics. You also need a school that has all the proper tools to teach you your trade. Take a tour of the school before enrolling so you can see for yourself what the facilities are like.
Instructor Experience
Review the teachers. If they have profiles on the school website, read them carefully. You want teachers who have at least 6-12 years of experience in the field. This means they will be able to give you real feedback on what is acceptable in the industry. It also means that their advice will be based on real-life experiences instead of what they heard from other people. You are entering a very practical, hands-on field. You want instructors who can prepare you for the “real world” in a setting as close to the real world as possible.
Support
The school you attend needs to have a good support system. They need to have a team that can help you with curriculum, fees, career advising, and more. The cosmetology school staff also needs to be able to appropriately resolve your questions and concerns.
Hours
This is not a must, but if you are studying make-up artistry as a side gig, then you need a school that will work with your schedule.
Wrapping Up
If you plan on studying makeup artistry in Sydney, yes, be excited, but also be prepared. Get yourself into an accredited program that can help you with job placement right after you graduate to kickstart your makeup career. You also need to make sure that you will learn what you need to be successful. This is the career you’ve chosen, of course, and you want to make sure that you set up your career to make the best possible life for yourself.
